Our room has two areas, one for activities and messy play and another for quieter activities such as reading, children are also able to rest and sleep in this area it also has facilities for changing of babies.
We have lots of activities available for our younger learners including; creative activities such as sand, water and painting these types of activities encourage children to learn how to make marks and develop exploration skills. Young children love to build and we have plenty of resources to allow them to think creatively we have natural wooden barked blocks as well as more conventional wooden blocks, children also love to build with recycled objects such as cardboard boxes, plastic pots etc. We have opportunities for them to explore shape and size through natural material stacking towers and posts to thread wooden rings onto. Our babies physical development is fostered through endless opportunities to practice skills from learning to sit up, pulling themselves up to standing using resources, pushing large trucks, throwing balls, and learning to climb steps to the changing unit. Our resources are selected as they are open ended and can be played with in many ways to help children develop their exploratory impulses for example recycled gift bags can be used to collect and transport objects, to wear on your head as a hat, or to be used in a game of going shopping. Plastic drinking beakers can be stacked, sorted into colours, rolled across the floor, filled and emptied or used in role play.
We have resources that explore making sound for example, bells, rainmakers and home made sound bottles they also encourage visual exploration with different colours and materials used. Children become aware of technology from a young age and we have resources which stimulate this such as push and pull toys, torches and wind up toys. We have a good range of books for children to both read with practitioners or read independently, as well as puppets to help tell the stories to children.
All of our resources help practitioners deliver learning in all 7 areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage, activities are all carefully planned and thought about to teach our younger learners in a fun way.
